BRIEF HISTORY:

When Roger Penske after the 1976 season decided not to run Formula 1 any longer, he sold the complete team to the German ATS aluminum wheel manufacturer Gunther Schmidt who started into the 1977 season with the basically unchanged Penske PC4 chassis.

Since Penske cars were close relatives to the March F1 cars, Schmidt allied with
Robin Herd, the March designer to develop the Penske chassis.

In 1978 ATS showed with the HS1 which was an evolution of the former Penske PC4.
Three chassis were built. This particular chassis ATS HS1 #3 was raced in the Swedish and the French Grand Prix by Keke Rosberg and in the final 4 Grand Prix of 1978 by Michael Bleekemolen.

In the year 2007 we purchased the Penske PC4-001, the Austrian GP-Winner of 1976 with John Watson, for a collector in the US. At that time we also found this chassis in the same place together with some other spares and were recently able to purchase this as well.
